Privacy Policy
CoastMate · OceanComm Labs LLC · Effective October 2026
This policy explains what information CoastMate (the “app”) and this website collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. “We” means OceanComm Labs LLC. Questions: legal@coastmate.ai.
Information you give us
- Account: your email address and password (handled by our authentication provider).
- Boater and vessel profile: details you enter, such as vessel type and size, safety equipment, and boating experience.
- Float plans and shore contacts: trip details (destination, times, passengers) and the names, email addresses and, when text alerts are available, phone numbers of the people you ask us to notify. You should only add contacts who agree to receive these messages.
- Checklists and records: departure and safety-check responses, incident reports, and photos you attach to a trip or report.
- Your questions: what you ask the voice assistant, by speaking or typing.
- Messages to us: anything you send to our support address.
Information collected from your device
- Location: used for local weather, marine advisories, tide predictions, and your position on the map. With your permission, location may also be used in the background for the anchor-drift alarm and, during an active float plan, to periodically record your position so a shore contact can be shown your trail if you are overdue. You can turn location off in your device settings; some features will not work without it.
- Microphone and speech recognition: used only so you can talk to the app. Speech may be processed by your device’s speech recognition service (for example Apple or Google).
- Camera and photo library: only if you choose to attach a photo.
- Notifications: used to deliver alarms and reminders.
- Face ID, fingerprint or device lock: only if you turn on app lock. We do not receive your biometric data.
How we use information
- To provide the app’s features: float plans, alarms, weather and tide information, voice answers, and trip records.
- To send alerts you have set up to your chosen shore contacts, and account emails such as password resets.
- To remember useful patterns, such as topics you ask about often or destinations you use, to personalise answers.
- To maintain safety records, protect the service, prevent misuse, and meet legal obligations.
- To improve and support the app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share it with
We use service providers that process information on our behalf, only as needed to run the app:
- Supabase – account sign-in, database and file storage.
- Anthropic – generates AI answers. Your question and relevant context (such as your location and trip details) are sent to produce a response.
- Voyage AI – converts text to search embeddings used to find relevant boating information.
- ElevenLabs – turns answers into spoken voice.
- Resend – delivers emails, including alerts to your shore contacts.
- Twilio – will deliver text messages if and when that feature is released.
- Google Maps, NOAA and the National Weather Service – map display, tide and weather data. These services may receive your approximate location to return local results.
- Apple and Google – app store, purchase and speech-recognition services.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect safety or rights, or in connection with a sale or reorganisation of the business. If you give a shore contact’s details, that contact will receive the alerts you set up, which can include your trip details and last known position.
Text messages
When text alerts are available, they will be sent only to phone numbers you enter for your shore contacts, and only for the float plan and safety alerts you set up. Message frequency varies with your trips. Message and data rates may apply. A recipient can reply STOP at any time to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help. We do not sell or share phone numbers with third parties for marketing, and mobile information is not shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.
How long we keep information
We keep account information while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your profile, trip photos and personal data from our systems. Exception: certain safety records, such as departure-check records and incident-related question logs, may be retained after account deletion for safety and legal reasons. We may also keep information we are required to keep by law.
Your choices and rights
- You can view and edit your profile in the app, and delete your account from the app’s settings.
- You can change location, microphone, camera and notification permissions at any time in your device settings.
- You can ask to access, correct or delete your information by emailing legal@coastmate.ai. Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honour them.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections and per-user access controls on our database. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
CoastMate is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and we will tell you in the app if changes are significant.
